I am Md Siam Hasan, a Civil Engineer with both academic knowledge and hands-on field experience. I have completed my BSc in Civil Engineering from IUBAT (International University of Business Agriculture and Technology) and a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Barisal Polytechnic Institute. From the beginning of my career, I have always been passionate about project estimation, cost control, and working closely with design and execution teams.
Currently, I am working at Building Technology & Ideas Ltd. (bti) as an Estimation Engineer in the SFS (Square Feet Story) team. This team mainly deals with interior fit-outs, renovation, and custom construction projects. Here, my role is deeply connected with both the technical and creative sides of project development.
My Key Responsibilities at BTI:
Project Budgeting: I prepare detailed project budgets based on design scopes, client requirements, and material specifications.
BOQ & BOM Preparation: I prepare accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Bill of Materials (BOM) from architectural and interior design drawings.
Cost Estimation: I estimate project costs by calculating material quantities, applying updated market rates, and adjusting for project-specific conditions.
Drawing Understanding: I carefully analyze and interpret both architectural and interior layout drawings to ensure accurate quantity take-offs.
Vendor Coordination: I regularly communicate with vendors and suppliers to gather up-to-date pricing and ensure quality materials within budget.
Client Interaction: I often support meetings with clients to discuss estimations, budget constraints, and material options, making sure they are satisfied with both cost and quality.
Coordination with Designers: I work closely with the in-house design team to align estimation with design intent, functionality, and aesthetic goals.
My Learning and Growth at BTI:
BTI is not just a job for me — it is a learning ground. Every day, I face new types of projects, materials, and design ideas that help me expand my technical knowledge and understanding of the market. I have improved significantly in interior cost analysis, vendor communication, and professional estimation practices.
Working in the SFS team has given me exposure to different types of interior projects including residential, office, and commercial fit-outs. I’ve developed a strong sense of how to balance cost with quality and client expectations — a skill that is very important in today’s real estate and interior industry.
This experience is helping me become a more complete engineer. I am now more confident in my ability to handle estimation work for both construction and interior design, and I continue to sharpen my skills with every new project.
